You know pepper spray is often used in self-defense or riot control, and you know the effects—pain, tears, coughing, and sometimes temporary blindness. But what is it that makes this concoction so potent?

Pepper spray is mostly made of capsaicin, which is extracted from plants in the Capsicum genus. Because chilis are included in this category, the name “pepper” was attached, and it officially became “pepper spray.”

Packaged and sold in canisters, pepper spray became a favored tool among those interested in self defense. The canisters are often made small enough that they can be concealed in one’s pocket or purse. In some cases, they are even made so small that they are constructed into keychain pepper spray.

How Dangerous is Airsoft

airsoft.jpgAirsoft guns have been around roughly since the 1970s, and ever since their introduction, parents have worried and wondered about the safety of these guns. The first thing to note about the product is that they are extremely realistic. People may confuse them with real guns, so they should never be brought to school. Generally speaking, you should avoid bringing them to public places.

Airsoft guns, including airsoft spring guns and airsoft BB guns, are basically safe to use. They will not puncture the skin, although they can leave bruises or welts if shot on bare skin.

The best way to use airsoft guns safely is to use common sense. Don’t shoot people from close range, and always wear proper eye protection. Ski goggles or shop glasses do not count. The glasses used during paintball are the caliber of quality you need.

Also be careful while transporting guns. Always use a proper carrying case. This will protect others from accidental discharges, but it will also protect your gun, which can be fragile.
